Oh Sail

Historical Sailing

Sail the Past: Malta, 1780.

You are a new hand in the Grand Harbour, and the game is your first season at sea. Seven chapters, each an errand with real stakes that happens to teach one real skill.

Chapter One opens: a boat at anchor under a crescent moon in the Grand Harbour

A story, not a menu

Every chapter is an errand with stakes

Carry the pilot out to a waiting ship, dead upwind. Bring the mail packet in through the marks. Race the felucca Santa Marija home before the gun. Fish the bosun’s boy out of a squall. Each one is a real lesson wearing a story, narrated by Cap’n Pell as your sailing master.

The Sea Chart: chapter pins and stars along a brass route through the harbour

The Sea Chart

A season you can hold

Your chart fills in chapter by chapter. Your rating climbs the merchant ladder, Landsman to Sailing Master, judged on how well you actually sailed. Finish the season and you hold a Seaman’s Record with your name, your rank, and your stars. Then the naval scenarios open.

Honest history

It is 1780, so there are no engines and no shortcuts: sail only, the way the harbour worked. The seamanship stays modern-correct throughout. The colours on the buoys came later; the idea is ancient. Stay between the marks.
