Getting Started

The five minutes that make your first sail click.

Pilots do ground school before they ever touch a plane. Here’s yours: the handful of ideas that turn “the boom hit me” into “I get it.” Click through one idea at a time; the tutorial teaches all of it hands-on.

Idea 1 of 12

You can’t sail straight into the wind

WINDNO-GO~45° each sideclosest youcan sail →← or this way

Point a boat within roughly 45° of where the wind is coming from and the sail just flaps (sailors say it “luffs”) and you coast to a stop. That dead-ahead wedge is the no-go zone. The whole craft of sailing is working around it.

In the game
The tutorial draws this wedge right on the water the moment you learn to steer.
